"What blood tests do I need to diagnose celiac (coeliac ) disease and gluten reactions?" Please see the blood test page on the website for much more detail
I reply: Blood tests are VERY useful in diagnosing gluten-sensitivity. There are a number of reasons why blood tests are important 1 – To diagnose coeliac disease (that is gut tissue damage). The blood tests for this are tTG or EMA. If these are positive , then you should have an endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis. 2 - To diagnose gluten-sensitivity. The blood test that you need is the IgG-gliadin and the IgA-gliadin tests. A positive test shows that you are experiencing an immune reaction to gluten. Most gluten-sensitive people have a high IgG-gliadin test. Other blood tests are also helpful – see our blood test list for a full explanation about blood tests. Important Note: many labs do not now offer the IgG-gliadin test.
