“Can gluten get through the skin into the bloodstream to cause sensitivity issues similar to ingestion? I have experienced neurological problems (peripheral neuropathy, ataxia, etc) for a few years. I tested positive for the gluten intolerance gene (and antibodies) and I have been gluten free for 18+ months with little to no symptom reduction. I recently discovered that my shampoo has wheat/gluten as an ingredient and wondered if absorption could be a problem for me.” Thank you, Bill. Yes! Gluten can be absorbed through the skin.
Gluten can cause you symptoms through absorption into your skin if you are very sensitive. So be careful with all skin creams, lotions and potions. And yes, shampoo and lipsticks are a trap. Play-dough can be a problem for children. Gluten can be absorbed through the skin and cause rashes and itchy scalpr. |
