If you have celiac disease and do not follow the gluten-free diet, then your bowel will progressively get more damaged and you will become very unwell. You must follow the gluten-free diet. The problems that you might get if you continue to eat gluten are:
Bad health and bad nutrition, poor immunity, other autoimmune diseases, thin bones (osteoporosis), cancers (lymphoma), depression and other mental health problems, infertility ...
However, if you are gluten-sensitive, then your bowel is unlikely to get damaged. But, your symptoms may progressively get worse if you keep eating gluten. You also could develop some of the list above. It is best to stay gluten-free. Read our book on how to "Going Gluten-Free" and stay gluten free. Some people who are gluten-sensitive can tolerate small amounts of gluten now and then. But we do not advise this. People with the Gluten Syndrome need to remain strictly off gluten. |
