"My daughter has been unwell for most of the past 12 months. She has had ongoing tummy problems previous to that. We now think she is gluten sensitive and she has just started a gluten free diet. This has generally made a huge difference to her health. I have read a lot recently on gluten sensitivity and the classic symptoms in children. My daughter fits many of these. However, she has suffered a lot with aching legs and describes them as feeling tired and unable to relax them at times. These symptoms have been a real problem recently after she had some gluten. My question is could the muscle restless and tiredness in the legs also be a symptom?" Thanks, Julie.
I reply: Great question. It is my experience that children with aching legs are often gluten-sensitive and the symptoms go on a gluten-free diet. Muscle restless and tiredness in the legs are also likely be symptoms. It can take several months on a gluten-free diet for these to fade away. Do let me know about her progress. Cheers, Dr Rodney Ford. |
