"My son, 4 years old has eczema that is getting worse. Can his eczema be caused by gluten?" Mum.
I reply: Yes, in my experience, eczema is strongly related to gluten. If eczema persists past two years of age, then my research finding is that gluten is the most common trigger.
I have treated hundreds of children who have had troublesome eczema. I do blood tests for gluten (the IgG-gliadin antibody). This is high in most of these children. The good news was that they nearly all got better off gluten. So if your child has persistent eczema, then get your child tested for gluten (the IgG-gliadin test) and see if gluten is the driver. I see many children with eczema who are cured by a gluten-free diet. Cheers, Dr Rodney Ford. |
