What is gluten sensitivity? PDF Print E-mail

 

"I am a bit confused.  I have discovered that I get sick with gluten.  But I do not know if I have a "real"  diagnosis.  What does "gluten sensitivity actually mean?  Should I get tests?"  Rachel.
 

I reply:

Being gluten-sensitive means that you react to the gluten in your diet.  Gluten is a food protein.  It is found in the three grains: wheat, rye and barley.  There are lots and lots of symptoms that can be caused by gluten.  The best way to test for gluten-sensitivity is to do a blood test (please check out the blood test page).

Medical research shows that at least one in ten people get symptoms with gluten.  But most are unaware of it - they do not know this because they are so used to feeling low and unwell.  If you have any ongoing ill health, then I encourage you to get tested for gluten reactions.  Look up my blood test recommendations.
