How common is gluten-sensitivity?
Gluten-sensitivity is very common. It occurs in about one-in-ten people (some say that it is even more common). However, coeliac disease is less common, occurring in about one-in-one-hundred people. Gluten-sensitivity has probably always been around but not been diagnosed. The diagnosis has not been possible until the advent of the blood tests over the last ten years.
In other words, for every 100 people, one will have coeliac disease and 10 will be gluten-sensitive (the gluten syndrome). About a third of people who have ongoing poor health will be sensitive to gluten. The Gluten Syndrome is a massive health problem. |
