Molenia says: “I am so glad that I came across your website. I have enjoyed going over it. Now Dr Gluten, please try to help me if you can. My daughter Stacey is 42 yrs old: she has had celiac for about 12 yrs now. But she is on and off of the diet.”
“She says she can’t afford to stay on the diet. But now she has been real sick off of the diet. She dose not want to go back to any more doctors - she has not had so very nice doctors. She says that they tell her that she isn’t all that sick, but Dr Gluten, she really is a sick girl now.”
“She is sick and vomiting. She is constipated (which seems like the opposite of what she should be), her bowl movements are terrible a lot of mucus and sometimes there is blood mixed with her stool. Now her doctor doesn’t really believe it when she tells them. We just don’t really know what to do. Her nerves are a wreck. I am just afraid something bad is going to happen. I don’t know what to do. She stays swollen all the time and her stomach is so sore inside plus she has cramps almost all the time.” “Please, any advice would be helpful. Thanks a million. May god bless you and your work. Please answer as soon as possible.” Molenia. Hi Molenia Thanks for your comments. I am pleased to help. The blood in her bowel motions is a worry. This means that she should have more blood tests and possibly an investigation of the bowel. Staying strictly gluten-free is VERY important for her - yes it is more expensive sometimes. It will take her several years on a gluten-free diet to feel better. But it is very important for her to get fully tested to make sure that nothing else is going on . I hope that this helps. Cheers. Rodney. My comments: Just because you have coeliac disease, does not mean that all of your symptoms are from gluten. Also, bowel tumours and cancers are more common in people with coeliac disease. You have to get tested again if you experience more symptoms. People with coeliac disease should have a complete check up every 3 or 4 years: check your bone density; check out for new bowel problems; check out your gluten-free diet; and get your blood tests for iron and gluten markers. Be aware of your health issues. Also it is essential to be strictly gluten-free if you have coeliac disease. This woman is suffering from the consequences of being lax with her diet. But - it can be very difficult when the diet is more expensive and when you are on a very limited budget. Your health is your number one asset. So do look after your self. Cheers Rodney Ford.
