"I read your article entitled "Gluten Causes Brain Disease!" and I want to encourage your research. About 2 years ago I was finally diagnosed with Celiacs, after complaining of many symptoms, including neurological problems, and being told I was getting old or it was menopause. My hands and feet were numb. My muscles were cramping so badly I couldn't sleep.
My toes would sometimes point straight up in the air. I was written up at work a couple of times for being impatient and angry, which was very out of character for me. I felt full all the time, yet felt I had to eat even if the thought of it made me want to throw up. I was gaining weight, my intestines quivered, and eventually, my bowel movements got peculiar. I had headaches, vision problems, dizziness and disorientation. It was really bad. BUT, once I went on the gluten-free diet, I immediately started seeing improvements. My boss and my co-workers were very impressed with my changed attitude. I was happy again. I had energy to exercise instead of falling asleep on the couch as soon as I ate dinner. My fingernails got stronger, the cramps in my muscles stopped. I still have some numbness in my hands and feet, but I have hope that it will eventually go away as well. I totally believe it is partly a brain/nerve disorder. My symptoms seemed to be neurological long before they became intestinal. But when I tell doctors, even though they now accept that I have celiacs, they still don't think I was just in a bad mood because I wasn't feeling very well. Please keep researching. We need advocates. Warmly, Wendy." |
