His team gave a medical presentation last week (NAPSGHAN Scientific Meeting, Salt Lake City, Oct 2007), with the title: “Role of the Innate Immune System in the Pathogenesis of Gluten Sensitivity: Preliminary Results”.

Kim Koeller is an amazing person.  I had the pleasure of having a gluten-free meal with her last week. Why is she so amazing?  Because she has started the concept of Gluten-Free Passport.

She has a diagnosis of multiple food allergy and celiac disease (seafood, dairy, pork, assorted food preservatives and gluten because of her celiac disease).  Kim Koeller decided if she couldn’t beat her allergies, then she had to manage them. She is now going to help you, if you ask her.

This is the full text of the poster presentation at NASPGHAN, Orlando, Florida, Oct 2006.

 It shows that MANY more children warrant a gluten-free diet than just those with a diagnosis of coeliac disease.  It shows that the INOVA diagnostic test of IgG-gliadin is a useful diagnostic test for this condition: gluten-sensitivity.

“It is ridiculous!” Dr Rodney Ford says.  “This gluten blood test (the IgG-gliadin antibody test) is no longer available from the community laboratory, Medlab Diagnostic.  This year they have decided to discontinue this test.  In their opinion is that it is worthless.”

But Dr Ford strenuously disagrees with their decision.  His latest data shows that huge numbers of people remain undiagnosed with serious symptoms because of the misinterpretation of this gluten test result.  He hopes that NZ doctors will heed the overseas research on gluten-sensitivity and begin to take this diagnosis seriously.  But the medical labs are obstructing the diagnosis.
